Organic Alternatives for Pest and Weed Control

Organic alternatives to pesticides and herbicides will protect, enhance and restore the environment. Jade Gardens ecourages the use of organic alternatives to control pests and weeds.

Municipalities in the Halton and peel regions are regulating the use of pesticides and herbicides. For example, as of January 1, 2008, the use of pesticides within the Oakville Town limits have been regulated. The only permitted pesticides which can be used are:

  • Insecticidal Soaps
  • Horticultural Oil/Dormant Oil
  • Silicon Dioxide (Diatomaceous Earth)
  • Pyrethrins
  • Bacilius Thuringiensis
  • Borax (Boric Acid)
  • Ferric Phosphate (Iron Phosphate)
  • Acetic Acid (Vinegar)
  • Nematodes
At Jade Gardens we carry a wide range of organic pest and weed control products, as well as beneficial nematodes.  For many of us, these ways of managing our gardens and lawns are new and perhaps a little intimidating.   We can advise you on how to best use these products for pest and weed control in your garden.  Please note that nematodes will soon be in stock for Spring application. This post contains more specific information on beneficial nematodes and tips for application.
