We’ve posted in the past about the increasing popularity (and practicality) of using cacti and succulents in your outdoor container gardening and/or garden beds. We stand by this practice – Cacti and Succulents are relatively maintenance free and with the heat and dry soil conditions we’re experiencing here in the GTA, cacti and succulents are an ideal solution. The only downside to many of these beauties is that they are not winter hardy in our zone 5-6 climate. This means that most cacti and many succulents must be dug up and brought in before the danger of frost, or alternatively, they must be replaced annually which makes for a somewhat costly “bedding plant”. So, if you’re into drought tolerant, but not quite sold on going as far with it as cacti and succulents, there are several winter-hardy perennials that you may want to consider. Here’s one:
