Purify the air in your home with the Amazing Crispy Wave Fern

November 20, 2017 / Jennifer Lancaster / Tropicals

Crispy Wave Fern - an air purifying plant

Crispy Wave Fern

Like most ferns, the Crispy Wave fern prefers no direct sunlight. It can tolerate a bright location, but not direct sunlight. It is not a winter hardy variety of fern, so you can have it outside in the summer months in a shady location, but be sure to bring indoors well before the frost. Ferns generally prefer a well drained pot with an all purpose or tropical mix soil. Ferns like a little humidity and should be watered to keep the soil slightly moist. Please feel free to talk to us more in store about specific care of this little air cleaning miracle! $7.99 now at Jade Gardens and Greenhouses.

Growing a Banana Tree Outside in Oakville or Milton, or Mississauga?

May 9, 2012 / Jennifer Lancaster / Tropicals

*Update* We are currently out of stock on the Musa Basjoo Banana Trees.

Hardy Banana Plant

Musa Basjoo (Hardy Banana Plant)

It’s unheard of! Here in the greater Toronto area, including Oakville, Mississauga, Milton and Georgetown, we get snow, and frost, and we have a definite cold season. So how could a person who lives here grow a banana tree outside? Well, at Jade Gardens and Greenhouses, we have a variety of banana tree common to Japan, called Musa Basjoo and this type of banana tree is winter hardy. We do sell this plant as an indoor tropical plant and we won’t guarantee it’s return, but we’ve heard great feedback that this variety can make it outside year round. It needs full sun, and you definitely need to mulch it, but the reports are positive. We’re going to try wintering one outside this coming winter and we’ll be sure to report back if its true.

Hours of Operation

We are currently closed for the winter season, reopening in the Spring 2021.  Jade Gardens would like to say thank you to our customers for the continuous support 2020.
